The Wilderness Ocean Walk / Bike Trail, aka the "WOW" Trail is a 6.2 kilometre (one way) sealed track with a couple of good sized hills. Thought it's posted as an "undulating gradient" this is NOT a casual family biking trail. It includes steep uphill / downhill areas, quick turns and heading east (towards Lights Beach) is almost entirely up-hill. WE recommend only taking this trail if you're experienced.
The Lookout at the Lights Beach carpark is inspiring with a paved walkway heading west along the ridge behind the beach offering spectacular views of the beach and heathland.
If you head LEFT from the carpark (facing the ocean), you will find the trail head heading due east towards the Denmark Community Wind Farm.
The trail passes Monkey Rock (inland) and Back Beach (shore) and traverses one of the prettiest sections of the south coast.
Visitors to the Denmark Community Windfarm can park at the bottom of the entrance to the windfarm (near the gates) and must walk (or ride a bike) up the hill. This is not a path for anyone who needs assistance walking as it's quite a hike. It's not somewhere we'd take Nannie and Grandpa for a morning's stroll but a great way to keep fit and enjoy the coastline.
The trail head for the WOW Trail at the Denmark Wind Farm is from the right-most turbine (as you're heading up the hill to the turbines) and is well marked.
The Denmark Wind Turbines stand 50m high with 22.8m long blades. The 800kw towers supply around 56% of Denmark's annual electricity demand (* in 2016).
